A little birdie told us…
At long last the Government have revealed plans to incorporate First Aid into secondary schools as part of the curriculum. The draft proposal sees first aid and CPR being added to the curriculum as part of wider Health Education Classes in England from 2020.
This decision will surely improve cardiac arrest survival rates in the UK. We currently much lower survival rates for out of hospital survival rates compared to countries that teach pupils first aid in schools. This is a very welcome change within the First Aid training community as every trained person is a potential life saved. Draft legislation published in July this year offers members of the public to comment on whether children would benefit from learning Basic Life saving skills. To show your support and to respond to the government’s consultation, simply click here. The full draft legislation can be found here. Helping children learn these vital life saving skills will help all of us, please add your views and support this paper.
Dad’s & Partners Matter Too!
Dad’s Mental Health Event
Lincoln PANDAS and Lincs Maternity Voices Partnership are thrilled to invite you to this event on 27th October focusing on Dads mental health - How are you Dad?
Join us for a this CHARITY FUNDRAISER raising awareness, educating and understanding the importance of Dad's mental health. This often overlooked illness NEEDS to be talked about more. We all know that Dads are under-represented when it comes to peri-natal mental health. We all know that male suicide rates are too high. We all know the stigma attached to men’s mental health.
We have the amazing Mark Williams, founder of International Father's mental Health Day and author of Daddy Blues sharing his lived experience of postnatal depression and anxiety.
For tickets please click on the link below.
Dad’s & Partners matter Too!
It might sound strange but have you ever wondered whether your partner could suffer from Post Natal Depression?
Official statistics recognise 10% of dads suffer from postnatal depression and a 2015 study by the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) found that 1 in 3 dads worry about their own health and 3 out of 4 dads worry about the health of their partner. PTSD can affect anyone so watching a partner go through a traumatic birth or your baby struggle to be born can be extremely stressful and can stay with both partners for years after.
More research needs to be done to help dad’s cope with the shock and fear that a traumatic birth can bring. Organisations such as Dads Matter UK provide help and support for those affected. Even requesting to talk to your midwife following the birth can help parents understand what happened and put some things into perspective or help you better reflect on your experience.
Additional organisations such as the Samaritans and as well as counselling services such as those offered free by the Co-Op Lincolnshire http://www.lcgl.org.uk/ provide support to those who feel they need it.
Don’t suffer in silence!
